If your HP OfficeJet 6958 printer isn't printing in color even after installing a new color cartridge and running the printhead cleaning tool, here are some steps you can follow to troubleshoot the issue:
Check Cartridge Authenticity
- Make sure you're using genuine HP cartridges. Non-HP or refilled cartridges can sometimes cause issues.
Remove and Reinstall the Cartridge
- Power on the printer.
- Open the cartridge access door.
- Remove the color cartridge and inspect it for any protective tape—make sure it's fully removed.
- Reinsert the cartridge firmly until it clicks into place.
Run a Print Quality Diagnostic Report
- On the printer control panel:
- Go to Setup > Printer Maintenance > Print Quality Report.
- This will help determine if the issue is with the cartridge or the printhead.
Clean the Printhead Again
- Go to Setup > Printer Maintenance > Clean Printhead.
- Run the cleaning cycle up to 3 times, checking print quality after each cycle.
Check Ink Levels
- On the printer screen or HP Smart app, check if the color cartridge shows as full.
- If it shows empty or low despite being new, it could be a faulty cartridge.
Update Printer Firmware
- Visit HP Software and Driver Downloads and enter your printer model.
- Download and install the latest firmware.
Try a Hard Reset
- With the printer on, unplug the power cord from the back.
- Wait 60 seconds.
- Plug it back in and turn it on.
