@Nannylu, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your HP OfficeJet 6958 printer isn't printing in color even after installing a new color cartridge and running the printhead cleaning tool, here are some steps you can follow to troubleshoot the issue:

Check Cartridge Authenticity

  • Make sure you're using genuine HP cartridges. Non-HP or refilled cartridges can sometimes cause issues.

Remove and Reinstall the Cartridge

  • Power on the printer.
  • Open the cartridge access door.
  • Remove the color cartridge and inspect it for any protective tape—make sure it's fully removed.
  • Reinsert the cartridge firmly until it clicks into place.

Run a Print Quality Diagnostic Report

  • On the printer control panel:
    • Go to Setup > Printer Maintenance > Print Quality Report.
  • This will help determine if the issue is with the cartridge or the printhead.

Clean the Printhead Again

  • Go to Setup > Printer Maintenance > Clean Printhead.
  • Run the cleaning cycle up to 3 times, checking print quality after each cycle.

Check Ink Levels

  • On the printer screen or HP Smart app, check if the color cartridge shows as full.
  • If it shows empty or low despite being new, it could be a faulty cartridge.

Update Printer Firmware

Try a Hard Reset

  • With the printer on, unplug the power cord from the back.
  • Wait 60 seconds.
  • Plug it back in and turn it on.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
