I have spent afternoon doing print quality diagnostics and other actions suggested to solve this problem. My HP Officejet 5746 has worked great, but not since I replaced both the color and black cartridges recently. I have replaced the color cartridge twice (thinking it was bad) but the only color I get is yellow, green and blue. The cartridges are too expensive to keep trying replacement. The HP Utility feature on my Mac indicates all is well, I have plenty of ink in both the black and tri-color cartridge. Anyone found solution to this problem? My unit is out of warranty..

Hi @Elaine2024,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand you've already gone through quite a bit of troubleshooting. Since you've replaced the cartridges multiple times and the issue persists, it's likely not a problem with the cartridges themselves. Here are a few additional steps you can try:
- Clean the printhead: Sometimes, ink buildup or debris on the printhead can cause printing issues. Your printer should have a maintenance or cleaning function that you can access through the control panel. Try running the printhead cleaning utility to see if it improves the print quality.
- Manual cleaning: If the built-in printhead cleaning doesn't solve the issue, you can try manually cleaning the printhead. You'll need to turn off the printer and carefully remove the cartridges. Then, using a lint-free cloth lightly dampened with distilled water, gently wipe the printhead to remove any dried ink or debris. Be careful not to touch the electrical contacts or nozzles.
- Check for firmware updates: Sometimes, printer firmware updates can address issues with print quality or cartridge recognition. Check the HP website for any available firmware updates for your printer model and follow the instructions to install them. Update the firmware on an HP printer
- Reset the printer: A factory reset can sometimes resolve stubborn issues with printers. Refer to your printer's manual or the HP website for instructions on how to perform a factory reset.
Refer to this document: HP OfficeJet 5746 e-All-in-One Printer User manual
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
