HP Officejet Pro 8100 ePrinter - N811a/N811d
Microsoft Windows 11

HP Officejet Pro 8100--never any problems.  Time to replace yellow, magenta, and blue.  Replaced with HP ink, and the printer screen keeps telling me yellow and magenta are empty with flashing lights.  Bought another box of HP ink.  Same error messages. I'm not writing about the printer, but the ink cartridges.  I'm out for two expensive boxes of HP ink that do not work in a perfectly fine HP printer.

Hi @Inky49,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds frustrating to deal with unrecognized ink cartridges, especially after spending money on replacements. Here are a few troubleshooting steps you can try.

  • Check Cartridge Installation: Ensure that the cartridges are installed correctly. Sometimes, the cartridges might not be seated properly. Remove and reinstall them, making sure they click into place.
  • Clean Cartridge Contacts: Turn off the printer and unplug it. Carefully remove the cartridges and use a lint-free cloth to clean the gold contacts on the cartridges and inside the printer. Make sure the contacts are dry before reinserting the cartridges.
  • Reset the Printer: Sometimes, resetting the printer can resolve cartridge recognition issues. To reset, turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source for about 60 seconds, then plug it back in and turn it on.
  • Check for Protective Tape: Make sure that all protective tape or plastic covers on the cartridges have been removed before installation.
  • Firmware Update: Check if there is a firmware update available for your printer. Sometimes updates can fix compatibility issues with new cartridges. Visit the HP website to find and install any available updates for your model.
  • Try Different Cartridges: Since you've already tried new cartridges, it's possible that there might be a batch issue. If you have another set of cartridges, try those to see if they work.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
