HP DeskJet 2810e All-in-One Printer

I do not use the printer very often. It is only for my charity work. The two cartridges which came with the printer were almost empty so I decided to change them for the 2 new ones from Instant Ink. These had been in th box since I received them about a year ago. These just kept printing blank pages. I cleaned the heads of the cartridges and on the printer and tried again. E0 error message. I put the old ones back but the prining was blank. I have just spent over £30 at Teson for their verson and I have exactly the same problem. There must be some sort of faul. I have a month pf my warranty left. I will ask for an exchange

@Rocksallie, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand how frustrating it can be when new ink cartridges don’t work, especially when you're using the printer for important charity work. Let's go through a few steps to help resolve the issue with your HP DeskJet 2810e All-in-One Printer.

Check Cartridge Compatibility

Ensure the cartridges are compatible with your printer. The HP DeskJet 2810e typically uses:

  • HP 67 or HP 67XL cartridges (or HP 305/305XL in some regions)

If you're using Instant Ink cartridges, they should work as long as your printer is enrolled in the Instant Ink program.

Check Cartridge Expiry

Even if unused, cartridges can dry out or expire. Check the install-by date on the cartridge packaging. If it’s over a year old, the ink may have dried up.

Clean the Cartridges and Printhead

You mentioned cleaning already, but try the automated cleaning process from the printer software:

  • Open the HP Smart app or go to the printer’s control panel.
  • Navigate to Tools > Printer Maintenance > Clean Cartridges.
  • Run the cleaning cycle 2–3 times if needed.

Check for Error Code E0

The E0 error typically indicates a cartridge issue. Try the following:

  • Remove both cartridges.
  • Power off the printer and unplug it for 60 seconds.
  • Reinsert the cartridges one at a time, starting with black.
  • Power on the printer and check if the error persists.

Update Printer Firmware

Outdated firmware can cause cartridge recognition issues.

  • Download the latest firmware from the HP Support page.
  • Select your printer model and follow the instructions to update.

Try a Different Cartridge

If possible, try a different set of cartridges (even the old ones, if they still have some ink) to isolate whether the issue is with the cartridges or the printer itself.
