OfficeJet 6978
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

OfficeJet 6978 was running fine except color ink was getting low, black was still half full.

 

The printer updated itself in the last few weeks, not sure exactly when.

 

Installed new 902 color cartriges but kept using the black one.

 

Started printing a document, and half way through the black went away and the blue was the only color left. Cleaned the printhead via the control panel, still no go. Replaced the black with a new one from the package the color ones came from. Still no black and only one color (blue).

 

Tried to align the head, but the scan page came out only in blue, naturally it could not scan it for the alignment.

 

cleaned the head a few more times and needless to say I am out of ink, a brand new $60 4 pack of ink has now produced 0 print pages and it says low on ink.

 

would like to keep this as a secondary printer, but being only 3 years old it looks like it will become trash. NOT a HAPPY user. Also why I now give HP 0 stars to anyone who requests opinions on HP printers.

Been there .... done that!

That is how I ended up here. The printer is out of warranty.

No help there.

 

The printer is now connected to the pc via usb.

As far as printing black only, it is partially working. Looks like some of the scan lines are missing.

Printing in color shows only the black with some scan lines missing. Not surprising since the new cartridges are showing empty after all this head cleaning/testing.

 

Put in my previous 902XL and the test page is now blank , put the new black ink cart 902 and it is still printing a blank page. I am at a loss.
