@Stacey1961, Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding HP DeskJet 2855e Printer: Red Light on Ink Cartridge!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.
If your new HP DeskJet 2855e printer has stopped printing and a red light is showing on the ink cartridge setting, follow these steps to troubleshoot the issue:
Check Ink Cartridge Installation
- Open the printer’s top cover: Ensure that both the black and tri-color ink cartridges are correctly installed in their respective slots.
- Remove and reinsert the ink cartridges: Sometimes, reinstalling the ink cartridges can resolve connection issues. Be cautious not to touch the ink nozzles or copper contacts during handling to avoid clogs and electrical connection issues.
Verify Ink Levels
- Check the ink levels: The red light might indicate that one or both ink cartridges are low on ink. Replace any low or empty cartridges.
Clean Ink Cartridge Contacts
- Print cartridge status light: If the light continues to flash, clean the ink cartridges manually if dust or debris is causing the issue.
- Supplies needed: Distilled water and cotton swabs or lint-free material.
- Procedure:
- Turn on the printer and open the top cover.
- Unplug the printer.
- Remove the ink cartridges and place them on a piece of paper with the ink nozzle facing up.
- Lightly moisten a cotton swab with distilled water and clean the face and edges of the ink cartridges (avoid the nozzle plate).
- Wipe the underside of the ink cartridge cradle walls.
Reset the Printer
- Restart the printer: Press the power button to turn off the printer, wait for 10 seconds, and turn it back on.
Perform Automated Cleaning
- Automated cleaning procedure: Use the HP DeskJet Utility Software to perform an automated cleaning of the print cartridges.
Hope this helps!
Take care, and have an amazing day!
