HP OfficeJet Pro 8024e All-in-One Printer
macOS 10.14 Mojave

Hi. Had an Office Jet Pro 6970, which suddenly collapsed. I just had replaced full set of 902/903/904/905 cartridges from the Instant Ink program.

So I purchased a new one, an Office Jet Pro 8024e. Obviously it came with new set of 912/913 cartridges.

Now I wonder.... the old cartridges fit in the new printer. Obviously, I get an error message since HP wants me to use the new cartridges, but I believe that to be a commercial error message.

I would like a technical reason why I should not do this instead of a commercial one.

Anyone?

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd be happy to help.

The inks from your old Printer are instant ink cartridges. Those are different from regular inks. You can use instant ink cartridges only on Printers enrolled with instant ink.

Let me know if this helps.

Hi Betty,

thanks. Whether enrolled in Instant-Ink or regular Ink sounds like a commercial thing to me. For this moment i'm not interested in 'using the right ink so I do not disturb my HP subscription'.

For this moment I'm looking for: I paid for some 10 ink cartridges I have left. Do I dump them or do I use them?

I'm looking for a technical reason why I would not be able to use them and not a commercial / HP reason.

thanks

Rolf

This is the only reason I could give you. It's designed this way. Instant Ink cartridges are meant to be used with Printers enrolled in the Instant Ink Program.

Your new Printer uses different ink than the old Printer. So you can't use your old printers ink in the new Printer. You can send them back.

Hi Betty,

thanks for your support, highly appreciated.

Just today I received the new ink cartridges for the new printer - in an 'HP Instant Ink box', just like the old boxes with the 'old' cartridges. Confusion complete :-).
