HP Color LaserJet Pro M254dw

What the ***bleep***? I'm getting the "Non-HP Chip Detected" error with a brand new $73 official HP Black toner cartridge installed on my HP LaserJet Pro M254dw. Seriously, HP?

Provide a solution to this, asap.

Hi @JD1775,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If you are using an HP LaserJet Pro M254dw printer and have received a "Non-HP Chip" error message when attempting to use an HP toner, it could be due to one of the following reasons.

  • The toner cartridge is not an original HP toner cartridge: If you are using a toner cartridge that is not manufactured by HP, the printer may not recognize the chip on the cartridge, resulting in an error message. To resolve this issue, try using an original HP toner cartridge.
  • The toner cartridge is damaged or defective: If the toner cartridge is damaged or defective, it may not be recognized by the printer. In this case, you will need to replace the toner cartridge with a new one.
  • The toner cartridge is not installed correctly: If the toner cartridge is not installed correctly, it may not be recognized by the printer. Remove the toner cartridge and re-install it to ensure it is properly seated.

If none of the above steps resolve the issue, try updating the printer firmware to the latest version.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
