Apparently, I have committed a felony. I bought non HP Printer cartridges that are compatable with my printer.  The printer won't accept them because they don't have an HP chip. Fine, next time I will buy HP cartridges but for now I need to be able to use these. What's the work around?

Hi  @Grammie99,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

Iunderstand your  concern. While some third-party cartridges may be marketed as compatible, many HP printers include cartridge authentication features that can prevent printing if the cartridge does not contain the required HP security chip. Unfortunately, there is no supported workaround to bypass these security features.

Kindly try the following basic troubleshooting steps:

  1. Turn the printer off, unplug the power cord for 60 seconds, and then restart the printer.
  2. Remove the cartridges and inspect them for any protective tape, packaging material, or visible damage.
  3. Clean the electrical contacts on the cartridges and inside the printer using a lint-free cloth.
  4. Ensure the cartridges are installed correctly and fully seated in their slots.
  5. If available, test with a genuine HP cartridge to confirm whether the issue is related to cartridge authentication.

I hope this helps.
