HP Office Jet Pro 7740 purchased in 2016 connected via WIFI. We have been using non-HP cartridges for past year or two. Suddenly yesterday there was an automatic software update and now message on screen is "this printer is not designed to use continuous ink systems". It worked just fine til two days ago. Any idea if i can go back to an old software version for the HP, or how to reverse this? Trying to avoid spending huge $$$ on HP cartridges.

@EW61, Welcome to the HP Support Community! I’m here to help.
HP does not recommend the use of non-HP inks or refilling the ink cartridge. It may or may not work.
The print quality cannot be guaranteed. Do you get any errors?
Download available firmware updates from the HP website
With the printer on and connected to the computer, go to HP Customer Support - Software and Driver Downloads, and then identify your printer. Look for and install any available firmware updates. Refer to the document HP Printers - Updating or Upgrading Printer Firmware
The third-party ink cartridges will work. But there are many cartridges in the market which is refilled and sometimes the chip is not configured to work with the printer. You need to contact the cartridge manufacturer and find out why it's not working. Try a different cartridge supplier and check if that works.
If the issue persists, refer to - Dynamic Security Enabled Printers
There is no option to downgrade the printer firmware. If you find posts/instructions on the same from other community members, You may try it at your own discretion.
You may purchase replacement HP cartridges and other supplies from the HP Store or local retailers.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.
