@DrDava2, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

Check Printer Settings for Color Printing:

Sometimes, the printer might be set to print in grayscale by default, even if the color cartridge is installed correctly.

Open the document or image you want to print.

Click on File > Print.

Select your HP OfficeJet 4655 printer.

Click on Printer Properties or Preferences (this varies by application).

Go to the Color tab and make sure that Color is selected instead of Black & White or Grayscale.

Apply the changes and try printing again.

Check the Ink Levels:

On your PC, go to Devices and Printers or Printers & Scanners in Settings.

Right-click your HP OfficeJet 4655 printer and select Printer Properties.

In the Status Monitor or HP Printer Assistant, check the ink levels to make sure the color cartridge is recognized.

Run the Print Quality Diagnostic:

On the printer, press the Setup button (gear icon).

Navigate to Tools and select Printer Diagnostics or Clean Printhead.

Follow the prompts to clean the printhead, and then print a diagnostic page to check the color output.

Check for Blocked Printheads:

From your HP Smart (on your PC) or the printer’s control panel, navigate to Tools or Maintenance and select Clean Printhead.

Follow the on-screen instructions and run the cleaning cycle.

After cleaning, print a test page to check if the colors are working.

Restart the Printer

  1. Turn off the printer.
  2. Unplug the power cord from the back of the printer.
  3. Press and hold the power button for 30 seconds.
  4. Wait for 60 seconds and connect the power cord back in.
  5. Turn on the printer.

Run HP Print and Scan Doctor (Windows only):

Update Printer Firmware (Update the firmware on an HP printer | HP® Support)

  • Go to the HP Customer Support - Software and Driver Downloads page. Enter your printer model number and search for the latest firmware update. Follow the instructions to download and install the firmware update.
