No, connect a LAN cable directly from computer to printer won't work. Do you have a network at home ? You have to connect your printer to your router and you can print from many devices on the SAME network.
Otherwise you can use USB connection and you need a USB printer cable to connect.

The square/round end to printer (at the back) and other end to your computer
