I have an HP Office Jet Pro 9015. The message on the printer screen says that the printer is not designed to use continuous ink systems. I have no idea what that means. I only use HP cartridges. Why can't I print? I have spent a small fortune on print cartridges and this money is going to waste if I cannot fix this. If you can help, I appreciate it. Thank you.

Hi @Greetmaster,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I completely understand how frustrating this must be, especially after spending so much on genuine HP cartridges. Let’s get to the bottom of this issue with your HP OfficeJet Pro 9015e.

1. Confirm Cartridge Authenticity

  • Make sure all cartridges are HP 962 or HP 962XL (for the 9015e).
  • Look for the HP security label on the cartridge box.
  • If you’re using Instant Ink cartridges, ensure your subscription is active.

2. Remove and Reinsert Cartridges

  • Power off the printer.
  • Remove all cartridges.
  • Clean the gold contacts gently with a lint-free cloth.
  • Reinsert cartridges and power on.

3. Update Printer Firmware

     Outdated firmware can misidentify cartridges:

  • Go to Settings > Printer Maintenance > Update Firmware.
  • Or use the HP Smart app to check for updates.

4. Reset the Printer

  • Unplug the printer while it’s on.
  • Wait 60 seconds.
  • Plug it back in and restart.

5. Replace the Cartridge (if needed)

If the error persists with one specific cartridge, it may be defective. HP may offer a free replacement if it's under warranty.
