I can not get my printer to print in color. I replaced the cartridges, I verified all of my print settings/preferences are correct to print in color. I have ran the print head cleaning numerous times. I have Uninstalled the printer and reinstalled it as well. Any other troubleshooting ideas for this issue?
I am using windows 11 and my printer is an HP officejet 8702.

Hi @Ickes1656, Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
Since you've already replaced the cartridges, verified print settings, cleaned the printhead, and reinstalled the printer, try the following additional troubleshooting steps:
Check if 'Print in Grayscale' is Enabled
- Go to Control Panel → Devices and Printers.
- Right-click your HP OfficeJet 8702 and select Printing Preferences.
- Make sure Print in Grayscale is unchecked.
Run Windows Troubleshooter
- Go to Settings → System → Troubleshoot → Other Troubleshooters.
- Scroll to Printer and click Run.
Manually Clean the Printhead
If the automated cleaning didn’t help, try manually cleaning the printhead:
- Remove the ink cartridges.
- Gently wipe the printhead contacts with a lint-free cloth and distilled water.
- Let it dry, then reinstall the cartridges.
Use the HP Print and Scan Doctor
- Download and run HP Print and Scan Doctor to detect and fix printer issues.
Update the Printer Firmware
- Open HP Smart or go to the HP Support website to check for firmware updates.
Try a Different Print Driver
- Open Control Panel → Devices and Printers.
- Right-click your printer and select Printer Properties.
- Go to the Advanced tab and change the driver to HP OfficeJet Pro 8710 (or a Universal Print Driver).
- Click Apply and OK.
Try Printing from Another Program
- Sometimes, an issue may be specific to one application.
- Try printing a color document from Word, Paint, or a PDF reader.
Test a Copy Function
- Place a color document on the scanner and make a copy.
- If the copy comes out in color, then the issue is likely software-related.
- If it prints in black and white, the printhead might be faulty.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
