HP ENVY 5055 All-in-One Printer

My printer is not printing in color. I tried the status report and it did not print the color portion and I recently replaced the color cartridge. It was installed correctly (I removed the film) and I double checked and cleaned any black smudged ink from the ribbon on the cartridge. HP Smart shows that I have a full cartridge of color and I checked for any firmware updates, which showed everything is up to date. Any document that contains color is printed in a poor grayscale despite the settings turning grayscale off. The printer is out of warranty, but is there anything I can do to get it to print color?

Hi @tbrownicus,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query.

If your printer is not printing in color despite having installed a new color cartridge, here are some steps you can follow to resolve the problem:

Check Color Printing Permissions:

  • Ensure that the printer is not set to print only in black and white.
  • You can change the Restrict Color setting in the Manage Supplies menu to enable color printing.

Verify Cartridge Installation:

  • Make sure that the color cartridge is properly installed with the correct orientation and color matching the slot label.

Check Ink Cartridge Status:

  • Perform an ink cartridge status check to ensure the cartridge is recognized properly.
  • Make sure it does not display as missing or requires reseating.

Print Settings:

  • Review the print settings in your printer software. Ensure that the settings are configured to print in color.

Align and Clean the Printhead:

  1. You can align the printhead or perform a printhead cleaning from the printer’s control panel. This often resolves issues with missing colors or print quality.

To align the printhead:

  1. Load plain white paper into the main input tray.
  2. Go to the printer control panel, select Setup, then Tools, and select Align Printer.

To clean the printhead:

  1. Again, load plain white paper into the main input tray.
  2. Go to the printer control panel, select Setup, then Tools, and select Clean Printhead.

Print Quality Diagnostic Page:

  1. Print a print quality diagnostic page to evaluate the color bars and determine if there are any issues with ink supply or printhead functionality.

Take care and have an amazing day!
