I was having an issue with poor print quality - no green/blue ...I have InstaInk service. I was sent a new Cyan...and when I put this in now both yellow and cyan are not recognized.

Hi @sdca4_me,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
The issue with your HP OfficeJet Pro 8035 not recognizing new Cyan and Yellow cartridges, especially after an initial print quality problem, could stem from several potential causes. Here’s how you can troubleshoot the problem.
Check Cartridge Compatibility
- Ensure the Cyan cartridge sent by HP InstaInk is the correct model for the OfficeJet Pro 8035.
- Confirm that your Yellow cartridge is also compatible and still valid under the subscription.
Reseat the Cartridges
- Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
- Open the ink cartridge access door.
- Remove both the Cyan and Yellow cartridges.
- Inspect the cartridges for any damage or protective tape that hasn’t been removed.
- Reinsert the cartridges firmly into their respective slots, ensuring they click into place.
- Close the ink cartridge access door and turn on the printer.
Clean the Ink Contacts
- Power off the printer and unplug it.
- Remove the Cyan and Yellow cartridges.
- Use a clean, lint-free cloth slightly dampened with distilled water to clean the copper-colored contacts on the cartridges and the corresponding contacts inside the printer.
- Allow the contacts to dry before reinserting the cartridges.
Update Printer Firmware
- Outdated firmware can sometimes cause cartridge recognition issues. Check for updates:
- Open the HP Smart app or go to the printer’s menu.
- Navigate to Settings > Printer Maintenance > Update Firmware.
- Install any available updates.
Restart the Printer
- Unplug the printer while it’s powered on.
- Wait 60 seconds, then plug it back in and turn it on.

Reset the Printer
- A factory reset may resolve software glitches causing recognition issues:
- On the printer’s control panel, go to Settings > Printer Maintenance > Restore Defaults.
- Follow the prompts to reset the printer.
- After the reset, reconfigure your printer as needed.
Run a Diagnostic Test
- Print a Print Quality Diagnostic Report:
- From the control panel, go to Settings > Printer Reports > Print Quality Report.
- Review the report to identify any additional cartridge-related issues.
Note:
- Avoid mixing cartridges: Ensure that all cartridges are from HP’s InstaInk program or supported by the printer.
- Check subscription status: If your InstaInk subscription is inactive or has an issue, the cartridges may not be authorized for use.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
