I have had nothing but problems from this printer & this is only my third time using it!!!
First time, I attempted to print 23 color certificates & when I got to #18, it ran out of color ink. The ink was brand new.
Second time, I got a new ink cartridge & attempted to print 23 color certificates. Once again, ran out of color ink.
Third time using this printer - wanted to print address labels. Printed one & it had only light blue ink. Put in new color ink cartridge & now the only thing that will print is the test page.
Maybe I'm not the best with technology but this shouldn't be this difficult. Bottom in...this is a piece of $#!

Hi @Amy5309 ,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand what you're experiencing with your HP DeskJet 2700e printer. It can be incredibly annoying when things don't work as expected, especially with new cartridges and a new printer.
Here are a few things you can try to resolve the issue:
- Check Ink Cartridge Installation: Make sure the new color cartridge is properly installed and the protective tape is removed. Sometimes, if the tape isn’t fully peeled off, the ink won't flow properly.
- Print Head Cleaning: The issue could be with clogged printheads. Try performing a printhead cleaning from the printer settings (on the printer itself or through the HP Smart app). This can often fix color printing problems.
- Use HP Smart for Diagnostics: Open the HP Smart app (or download it if you haven’t already) to run diagnostic tools. It can check ink levels and printer health, and it may suggest a solution for printing issues.
- Check Ink Levels: Even if your ink cartridges are new, sometimes there might be an issue with the ink detection. Check the ink levels to ensure they are full, and verify that the printer recognizes the new cartridges properly.
- Reset the Printer: Try resetting the printer by turning it off, unplugging it for a minute, and then plugging it back in. This can sometimes clear any lingering software or communication issues.
- Check for Firmware Updates: Make sure your printer’s firmware is up to date. HP regularly releases updates that fix various bugs and improve functionality.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
