I installed OEM cartridges (MintInk 910XL) in my OfficeJet Pro 8025e and am getting an error that the cartridges are rejected. On the side of the cartridges is a message that the cartridges are not compatible with 'e' series printers joined to the smart printing system. Is there some way to get around this error (possibly turning off some setting)?

@hecw, Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
HP's newer firmware updates block third-party ink cartridges with non-HP chips, and if your printer has already updated, you may not be able to bypass the "Non HP Chip Detected" error. Here’s what you can do:
Check Cartridge Compatibility
- Ensure the cartridge is genuine HP or has a chip that supports HP printers.
- If using third-party ink, check if the supplier provides updated chips compatible with newer HP firmware.
Downgrade Printer Firmware (If Possible)
- If HP recently updated your firmware, rolling back might help.
- Check your printer's firmware version:
- On the printer, go to Setup → Printer Maintenance → Printer Information.
- Compare it to the latest firmware available on HP's website.
- Try to find an older firmware version online. HP does not officially provide rollback firmware, but some third-party sites may have older versions.
Disable Automatic Firmware Updates
- On the printer, go to Setup → Printer Maintenance → Update the Printer → Printer Update Options
- Set it to "Do Not Check" or "Off."
Reset the Printer
If the firmware downgrade is not possible:
- Factory reset:
- Turn off the printer and unplug it.
- Hold Back and Cancel buttons (or Back and Power on some models).
- While holding the buttons, plug the printer back in and turn it on.
- Release the buttons when the reset menu appears.
- Select Reset to Factory Defaults
We strongly recommend you use HP cartridges.
If the above steps doesn't work, we suggest you please replace these cartridges with Standard HP genuine cartridges.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
