Good morning,
I have an HP Office Jet 9025E. It has 4 ink cartridges...black, cyan, magenta and yellow. I have depleted the yellow cartridge. I just want to print in black but I keep getting a message that I cant print until the yellow is replaced. Is there anyway to override this?

Hi @FRANCESCA731,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
Unfortunately, HP printers, including the OfficeJet Pro 9025e, are designed to require all ink cartridges to have ink for the printer to function, even if you're only printing in black and white. This is because the printer uses a small amount of all colors for maintenance tasks, even in black-and-white printing.
However, here are a few steps you can try to potentially work around this:
1. Set Printer to "Black Ink Only" Mode:
Windows:
- Open the Control Panel and navigate to Devices and Printers.
- Right-click on your HP OfficeJet Pro 9025e and select Printing Preferences.
- Look for an option like Print in Grayscale or Black Ink Only under the Color or Paper/Quality tab.
- Select Black Ink Only and click Apply, then OK.
Mac:
- Open a document and go to File > Print.
- In the print dialog box, select Show Details.
- Choose Paper Type/Quality or Color Options.
- Select Grayscale Printing or Black Ink Only from the available options.
2. Check Printer Settings in HP Smart App:
- Open the HP Smart app on your computer or mobile device.
- Go to the Printer Settings.
- Look for a section related to Ink Settings or Printing Preferences.
- If there is an option for Black Ink Only, enable it.
3. Replace the Yellow Cartridge Temporarily:
- Sometimes, the printer may require a functional cartridge to proceed. You could replace the yellow cartridge temporarily with a new or refilled cartridge just to continue printing in black.
4. Disable Cartridge Checking (Not Recommended):
- Disabling the printer’s cartridge checking can void your warranty and may cause print quality issues. If you are still interested, you can look for third-party tools or methods, but these are not officially supported by HP and come with risks.

I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
