I currently have a Canon Pixma Pro-100. Because I don't print in color often the ink often dries up between uses. have an MFP M225 for everyday use so I wouldn't be printing text docs with the color printer. Is there any problem with a color laser printer sitting unused for extended periods? I

Hi @WW332730,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
Color laser printers generally have better resistance to ink drying up compared to inkjet printers. Since you don't print in color often, a color laser printer might be a more suitable option for occasional color printing.
Here are some considerations regarding color laser printers and occasional use:
Toner vs. Ink:
- Laser printers use toner cartridges instead of ink cartridges. Toner does not dry out like ink, making color laser printers more suitable for occasional use.
- Toner cartridges can last longer without drying out, making them ideal for users who print infrequently.
Nozzle Clogging:
- Inkjet printers, like the Canon Pixma Pro-100, are prone to nozzle clogging if left unused for extended periods. This can lead to print quality issues and the need for frequent maintenance.
- Color laser printers do not have nozzles that can clog, so they are less susceptible to print quality issues due to inactivity.
Longevity:
- Laser printers generally have a longer lifespan compared to inkjet printers, especially when used infrequently.
- Laser printers are designed to handle occasional use without significant degradation in print quality or performance.
Cost Efficiency:
- While color laser printers typically have higher upfront costs compared to inkjet printers, they can be more cost-effective in the long run, especially for users who print infrequently.
- Toner cartridges generally have a lower cost per page compared to ink cartridges, making them more economical for occasional printing.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
