Replaced cartridge with HP and "Depleted cartridge must be replaced to resume printing " still on.  Have completed all "fix" recommendations. I have only replaced the Blk 952. Any suggestions

Yes, if any ink cartridge is depleted, the printer will stop printing.

Hi @Elaine2ndNat,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query.

I am sorry to hear that  you are receiving a "Depleted cartridge must be replaced to resume printing" message even after replacing the black 952 cartridge on your HP OfficeJet Pro 7740, try the following troubleshooting steps:

Verify Cartridge Compatibility:

  • Ensure that you are using the correct model of ink cartridge. For the HP OfficeJet Pro 7740, you should use the HP 952 Black ink cartridge.

Reset the Printer:

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  • Wait for about 60 seconds, plug it back in, and turn it on. This can sometimes clear error messages.

Reinstall the Cartridge:

  • Open the printer’s access door and remove the black cartridge.
  • Reinstall it securely, ensuring it clicks into place properly.

Clean the Cartridge Contacts:

  • Power off the printer and carefully remove the cartridge.
  • Use a lint-free cloth slightly moistened with distilled water to gently clean the copper contacts on the cartridge as well as the corresponding contacts in the printer.
  • Reinsert the cartridge and power the printer back on.

Update Printer Firmware:

  • Ensure your printer firmware is up to date. You can download and install the latest firmware from the HP Support website.

Check for Additional Cartridge Errors:

  • If the problem persists, check the status of other cartridges. Sometimes, the issue can be with another depleted color cartridge affecting the print process.

Use the HP Print and Scan Doctor:

  • Download and run the HP Print and Scan Doctor tool from HP's website. This tool is designed to diagnose and resolve many printing issues.

Take care and have an amazing day!
