I have been looking for the setting for my printer to disable the HP Cartridge Protection, but i do not see it anywhere. I bought a generic ink cartridges that are compatable with my printer, but because they are not HP my printer is rejecting them. Where can i disable the HP Cartridge Protection so i can use my ink?

Welcome to the HP Support Community.
I'd love to help.
Open a Web browser and enter your printer’s IP address in the Web address field. You will find your printer‘s IP address in your printer settings by accessing the network setup options. This opens the printer’s embedded Web server. Click on the Settings option and select HP Cartridge Protection to the left
Let me know if this helps.

Thanks!

I have an HP 8022e and I am getting the same message. When I go into the cartridge protection it was already on "off" I have tried restarting the printer but it still rejects cartridge. I am seeing something somewhat different that you explained in your answer to the original person.

This does not work. I bought this printer in November and was excited to use it. It has not only been a huge waste of money (the ink for one month through HP costs more than the printer for me) but the biggest headache. Huge buyers remorse, and I know from here on out I will NEVER buy another HP product again, and will highly recommend any other brand to friends and family. I can't even scan on this printer after upgrading to a Samsung laptop, which in my opinion is 100x better than my previous HP laptop. HP is supposed to allow users to refill cartridges and use third party cartridges after losing a huge lawsuit, but it appears they have found a loophole. I'm trying to see if I can return this giant eyesore and buy an Epson refillable printer, because I still have 19 months on the "extended" warranty I bought, which was another huge waste of money. Best thing I can say is to do is turn it off, and back on, then back off, then back on, over and over again until it allows you to print. Put a print job in the que before you do this, and eventually it will allow you to print 30 or so pages before you have to repeat the process because of the same error message. I print 500-1000 pages a month due to my job, and this is ridiculous.
