Office Jet Pro 8029 will not print in color.  I have cleaned the printhead with the system on the printer and cleaned them with a damp towel, checked cartridges, they are new, cleaned each cartridge even though they are new, cleaned the ink smear, i have checked the settings, everything is set to print in color.  The black printing is very crisp and clear.  The printer is only a year old.

Help!  Thank you!!

Hi @Lynda520,

Welcome to the HP Support Community

I understand you are facing an issue with your HP OfficeJet Pro 8028 Printer. Not to worry I will help you to get a resolution to resolve the issue.

To assist better:

  • Does the copy work fine from the printer?
  • From which application are you trying to print?
  • Have you tried printing from a different application?
  • What are the ink levels on the cartridges?

Let's try these steps:

Step 1: Print a Print Quality Report

  • On the Printer control Panel, swipe the screen from right to left to access the Set-Up menu.
  • Go to Tools > select print quality report
  • Check if the report has color on it.

Step 2: Check the Print settings

  • Go to Windows Search and search for Control Panel
  • Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers(under hardware and sound)
  • Right-click on the printer > Printing preferences
  • Check for the 'Black and White Only' or 'Grayscale' printing options. Make sure they are unchecked.
  • Try to print again.
  • If the issue persists, proceed to the next step.

Step 3: Remove and reinstall the printer driver

If you are able to make a copy in color and if the print quality report shows color, try re-installing the printer driver

  • In Windows, search for 'Control Panel and open 'Programs' or 'Programs and features and select 'Uninstall a Program.
  • Select your HP Printer.
  • Select Uninstall.
  • In Windows, search for 'Control Panel and look for 'View devices and printers' option under 'Hardware and Sound'.
  • In the Devices and Printers window look for your HP printer. If you see it listed right-click on it and choose 'Delete' or 'Remove Device.
  • Open up the run command with the "Windows key + R" key combo.
  • Type printui.exe /s and click Ok. (Note: there is a space in between “printui.exe” and “/s”)
  • Click on the "Drivers" tab.
  • Look for an HP Printer driver. If you see it Click on it and click Remove at the bottom.
  • Select Ok.
  • Select Apply and Ok on the Print Server Properties windows.
  • Close Devices and Printers.
  • Open up the run command with the "Windows key + R" key combo.
  • Type c:/programdata and click Ok. Go to the Hewlett Packard folder, and remove any printer-related folders & files.
  • Restart the computer.
  • Download the printer driver and install it from this link or manually search for the drivers from https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/printers.
  • Open the downloaded file, follow onscreen instructions, and complete the installation
  • Try printing from your PC again and check if you can print.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

These are the steps we have taken:

1.  Run clean printhead program (about 25 times)

2.  Checked for printer updates, everything is current

3.  Wipe off the little things that the print cartridges feed the ink through, both with a damp towel and a q-tip.  Ink is coming out fine.

4.  Put a damp paper towel in the carriage slot, run the cartridge holder over the damp paper towel, it took a ton of ink off that mechanism, but did nothing to fix the issue.

5.  Cleaned the port where the ink comes out of the cartridge.

6.  Cleaned the printheads Again!

7.  When we run the print diagnostics report, it is all in beautiful clear, crisp black.

8.  This all happened overnight, it was printing in color fine one day and the next nothing, so it isn't like anything should be clogged.  I use the printer all the time, it does not sit idle for longer than a day or two.

9.  I have checked all the print settings from the devices we print from.  All are set to color.

10.  Put new cartridges in, even though ink was coming out fine from the old ones.

I am stumped.

Thank you for your help.  We only print from our ipad or iphone.  I know I am going to look stupid, but I have no idea how to do this from those devices.  I would if I have a computer or laptop, but I do not.  Any advice you can give would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you

I have done everything but the print driver.  I only print from my iPad and iPhone.  How do I uninstall the print driver with these devices?  I tried printing from a very intense in color brochure and it was still in black and white.  Ink levels are full.

Thank you for your assistance.
