HP Officejet 6310 All-in-One Printer

I have always bought genuine HP cartridges and had no problems throughout the 17 years I have owned the printer.

However, recently I have been unable to purchase genuine HP 339 Black cartridges which were still within their use-by date (all those on offer had expired), so I purchased a compatible refill cartridge 7 months ago (note, I use the printer very infrequently). This worked OK initially , but now I get this error message permanently “Cartridge Error: cartridge on right must be replaced”.

I have tried cleaning the copper contacts in the carriage & on the cartridge, and then doing a reset (printer on, pull out the power and wait 60 seconds). This worked initially although the print alignment then printed a page only in black and then errored again.

Suggestions would be appreciated.
