My OfficeJet 8012 will no longer print with the generic cartridges I have always used since the last update. My printer is now useless - or I have to purchase genuine HP cartridges. I am not willing to spend almost triple the price on genuine cartridges, when the generic ones I've been using work just as well. I've tried searching for a fix - or a guide on how to downgrade the firmware - without success. All HP seem to do on other similar posts is post a link to their spiel about using genuine cartridges. This will be the last time I purchase a HP product, if this is how they treat their customers. Anyone got any ideas?

Hello,
same problem here. First time ever a printer decide with ink should I use and aren't any way to force it to respect my wills.
I've payed in full and warranty is already void so what's the clue of preventing me from using a third party cartage? what gives this right to HP?!? And if I decide NOT TO UPGRADE the firmware is UP TO ME!!!! They don't make COVID vaccine mandatory but they can impose us to use only HP cartage in OUR printer?!??
Dragon-fur you started your post with "welcome to the HP user community" but as the original post said you should expect the user to live the community and put the printer and all the other hp product where they should be: in the trash bin.
I will not buy original cartage, if I've to spend some money I'll buy a Canon, or a Dell, or a Epson, or a Lexmark, or a Oki, or a Ricoh, or a Samsung or a Xerox. None of this has vendor cartage locking...
Greetings,
