HP OfficeJet Pro 8028 All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi, I have an HP OfficeJet 8020 Pro printer.

The color printing is not working correctly.

All my ink cartridges are new. I've checked the levels and they are all nearly at max according to the printer.

I have completed all of the printer maintenance recommendations.

I have cleaned the printhead.

I have cleaned the smear.

I have aligned.

I have checked for updates and it says no updates are available for the printer.

None have solved this problem.

My test print page looks like this.

Any recommendations? Thank you in advance! Been very frustrating and hope it's something really simple that I am missing.

Hi @Hailey12345678,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your printer!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Based on the test print you provided, it looks like your printer is not correctly mixing or distributing colors, despite having full ink levels. Here are some steps you can try to fix this issue:

1. Perform a "Deep" Printhead Cleaning

Go to Printer Settings → Tools → Clean Printhead

Run the cleaning cycle two or three times (sometimes one round isn’t enough).

After cleaning, print a test page again.

2. Manually Clean the Printhead (If Deep Cleaning Fails)

Since you've already run automatic cleaning, try this:

Remove the cartridges and gently wipe the printhead with a lint-free cloth dampened with distilled water.

Ensure no dried ink is blocking the nozzles.

Let it dry completely before reinserting the cartridges.

3. Print a Diagnostic Page

Print a Print Quality Diagnostic Page from printer settings.

If colors appear faded or streaky, it confirms a printhead issue.

4. Check for Air Bubbles in Ink Supply

Remove and reinstall each cartridge firmly to ensure ink is flowing.

Tap the cartridges gently to dislodge trapped air bubbles.

5. Try a Different Paper Type & Print Settings

Go to print settings and manually select "Glossy Photo Paper" or "High-Quality Printing" mode.

Some printers adjust ink distribution based on the selected paper.

6. Reset Your Printer

Unplug your printer while it’s ON.

Wait 2-3 minutes and plug it back in.

Run another test print.

I hope this helps.
