I've recently replaced my ink (yes all of them) (yes they're HP official) and now the yellow color is coming out dark, like muted. I can't seem to find a resolution. I've cleaned the print heads, aligned them, deleted the printer from my computer and reinstalled (though that isn't the problem because when I print from my phone it does the same). Any thoughts or help is appreciated.

Hi @NeillCO,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If you're experiencing an issue with the yellow color appearing dark or muted after replacing the ink cartridges in your HP OfficeJet 9012 printer, there are several steps you can take to troubleshoot and resolve the problem. Here are some suggestions.

Check Ink Levels: Ensure that the yellow ink cartridge has enough ink. You can check the ink levels through your printer software or the printer's control panel.

Print a Test Page: Print a test page directly from the printer. This can usually be done from the printer's control panel. Check if the issue persists on the test page.

Clean the Printheads: If you haven't already, perform a thorough printhead cleaning. Most printers have a utility for this in their settings menu. Follow the instructions in your printer's manual or on the control panel to run the printhead cleaning process.

Align the Printheads: After cleaning the printheads, it's a good idea to align them. This helps ensure that the colors are properly calibrated. You can usually find this option in your printer's settings menu.

Use the Printer's Maintenance Tools: Check your printer's manual for additional maintenance tools or diagnostic features that may help resolve color issues. Some printers have advanced tools that can correct color imbalances.

Update Printer Firmware: Ensure that your printer has the latest firmware installed. Manufacturers often release firmware updates that can improve printer performance and address various issues.

Check Print Settings: Make sure that your print settings are configured correctly. Sometimes, the default settings may not be optimal for your print job. Adjust settings such as print quality, paper type, and color options.

Use Genuine HP Cartridges: Ensure that you are using genuine HP ink cartridges. Using third-party or counterfeit cartridges can sometimes lead to print quality issues.

Inspect the Yellow Cartridge: Check the yellow ink cartridge for any visible issues. Make sure that the protective tape or seal has been removed from the cartridge before installation.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
