I am having the same problem as noted in this request that was never solved: https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Printing-Errors-or-Lights-Stuck-Print-Jobs/OfficeJet-Pro-6978-printing...
A couple weeks ago the printer started print streaks/blotches of pink in areas that should be darker blue and/or purple. Print test pages look fine, ink cartridges have been replaced, performed the internal cleaning process multiple times, powered completely down/unplugged, removed and reloaded the printer driver and it doesn't look any better. See the pictures at the link above for examples.
Ink is genuine HP ink

Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Does this also happen while copying from the printer?
Let's try to do a root uninstall and reinstall of the software:
Unplug any USB cable, if any, before doing this.
1.) In Windows, search for and open Programs and features
2.) Select your HP Printer
3.) Select Uninstall
4.) In Windows, search for and open Devices and printers
5.) In the Devices and Printers windows look for your HP printer. If you see it listed right-click on it and choose 'Delete' or 'Remove Device'
6.) Open up the run command with the "Windows key + R" key combo.
7.) Type printui.exe /s and click Ok. (Note: there is a space in between “printui.exe” and “/s”)
8.) Click on the "Drivers" tab
9.) Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it Click on it and click Remove at the bottom
10.) Select Ok
11.) Select Apply and Ok on the Print Server Properties windows
12.) Close Devices and Printers
13.) Open up the run command with the "Windows key + R" key combo
14.) Type c:/programdata and click Ok. Go to Hewlett Packard folder, remove any printer related folders & files.
15.) Restart the computer.
Once done, please download and install the software from here:

This issue happens when copying also. I tried the steps that you provided and the issue still exists. Nothing has changed.
The printer produces the streaked picture. I included a scanned copy of the picture so you can see what it should look like.printed picture

I keep seeing HP dance around this issue, but it's clearly affecting lots of people. Either the printer series is defective or HP's firmware has messed things up.
I haven't tried to downgrade my firmware yet, but here is a link to info that might help you
