Spent over two hours in two separate sessions with HP Support and the presumed fix they came up with was to replace the print head. Circumspect of that solution given the printing error only happens when printing from Windows and not when making copies. Downloaded and ran "Print and Scan Doctor" (HPPSdr.exe) and it said there were no issues but did fix the issue (for now). I'll keep this thread updated.

Valsimot's "use the most recent driver" post is technically correct but incomplete.
In Windows 10, use "Settings" to find the printer under "Devices", then "Printers & scanners", then select the device which will have "HP OfficeJet Pro 7740 series" (but don't use the Fax option). Select the printer, then "Manage", then "Printer properties". In the pop-up, select the "Advanced" tab to view which driver is installed. The correct driver is "HP OfficeJet Pro 7740 series PCL-3"
If you use HP Smart (which is what the driver install page steers you to do), it will install "HP PCL3 B-size Printer Class Driver" which is not the correct driver. You will need to manually download the driver and installation (Full_Webpack-40.16.1234_1-OJ7740_Full_Webpack.exe) which is under the "Installation Software and Full/Basic Driver - Supports print and scan functions only (3)" option on this page:

Download and run the file noted above and the driver should be correct.

Valsimot, your suggestion lacks enough information to be helpful. The support page in your link steers people to use HP Smart to install drivers and diagnose issues and it does not properly fix the issue.
See my post below with more complete instructions (for Windows 10) on how to correct the issue.
