I just installed all new ink cartridges.  My printer reports that the thee color and the black cartridges are full.  However, the printer only prints black.  On a test page, none of the color sections print at all.  I have tried cleaning the print head, checking to make sure Grayscale is Off, removing and reseating all three color cartridges, power cycling, and making sure I have the latest printer software installed.  No matter what, not a drop of color ink from any of the three cartridges will print.

Hi @MikeFinMaine,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd like to help!

Try making a standalone Copy in color and check if that works. By this, we can conclude if this is a hardware or a driver issue.

On the printer control panel, swipe down to open the Dashboard, and then touch the Setup icon .

Swipe up on the display, touch Reports, and then touch Print Quality Report.

If the printer is able to print the test page and make a copy in color, it means the hardware is fine, proceed to the next step:

Install the printer using the TCP/IP port:

  1. On the PC, go to Control panel > Devices and printers > Add a printer(at the top)
  2. Under 'Choose a device or printer', click on 'The printer I want isn't listed'.
  3. Select 'Add a printer using a TCP/IP address'
  4. Find the IP address of the printer by tapping on the wireless/ethernet icon on the printer screen
  5. Type in the 'IP address in Hostname or IP address' box, click next
  6. Proceed to the next steps by following the on-screen instructions.
  7. Try printing in color.

Update full-feature software driver. Click here

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Thanks, Elohi_NR.

Your steps were helpful.  Unfortunately, the Print Quality Report only prints with black ink despite all of the ink cartridges shows as full.  I have done multiple levels of print head cleaning, so I am concluding that there is a printer hardware printer.  I guess I will buy a new printer.

Thanks,

Mike

I have followed all the same print head cleaning, smear cleaning, alignment, removing adhesive from the cartridges, etc. steps and even did a factory reset of the printer and was not able to get the printer to print in color. How frustrating that the color ink cartridges just stopped working without warning!
