HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus e-All-in-One Printer - N911g

Printer has always worked with HP and non-HP ink cartridges but began giving a “damaged cartridge” message when non-HP cartridges were used, even though there is nothing wrong with the cartridges, making the printer unusable.

My understanding is that HP used firmware to block the use of non-HP ink.

Is there a workaround that will make the printer useable?
