My printer has lines or double text appearing over printed text. I've done the first and second level printer head cleaning with no results. I also did the page smear cleaning. No results. How can I resolve this?

Hi @CJbordercolliel,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding line or double text issues on the HP OfficeJet 3833!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Try these steps:

  1. Check Print Settings:

    • Ensure that the print settings are correct in your printing software. Select the proper paper type and quality settings to match your document requirements.
  2. Align the Printhead:

    • Perform a printhead alignment. This can help correct any misalignment issues that may be causing lines or double text.
    • Use the printer control panel or the HP Smart app for alignment instructions.
  3. Inspect Paper Condition:

    • Ensure the paper is not wrinkled, curled, or of poor quality, as this can affect print quality. Using high-quality paper designed for inkjet printers can make a difference.
  4. Check for Software Update:

    • Update the printer software and drivers to ensure you have the latest version, which can resolve known issues.
  5. Calibration:

    • Perform the printhead calibration using the printer software, if available.

I hope this helps.

I understand your OfficeJet 3833 is printing with lines or double/blurred text, even after running printhead and smear cleaning. Let’s try some additional steps to get this fixed:

Check Ink Cartridges

Make sure both cartridges are genuine HP and have sufficient ink.

Remove the cartridges, gently clean the copper contacts with a lint-free cloth, then reseat them firmly.

Align the Printhead

On the printer’s control panel, go to Setup > Tools > Align Printhead.

Follow the on-screen instructions and print the alignment page.

Print a Diagnostic Report

On the control panel: Setup > Tools > Printer Status Report.

Check if the report shows clear, sharp lines. If lines are missing or blurred, the cartridges may need replacing.

Update Firmware

Visit HP Support – Software & Drivers.

Enter your model and install the latest firmware update.

Try Different Paper

Use fresh, plain white paper (not damp or curled).

Ensure the paper type/size matches the settings in the print driver.

I hope this helps.
