I do not know how this happened but the printer in the Subject line is not printing black. It has lots of black ink left and it is using 934 XL black ink cartridge. Its colored 935 CMY cartridges are either very low or empty. Today I did some research and found a HP forum post explaining that printing in black does use some CMY. I tried to find the option that enables just using the black ink cartridge to print black and white copies on the printer but did not find it. I know that laptops, desktops, and smartphones may have the option to print only in black and white, but I am unsure if it is or is not using some CMY to create the print copy. I have tried all the maintenance options available within the printer's operating system that are clean printhead, align printhead, and clean page smears if I remember correctly. All three options failed to fix the issue. The first two options I mentioned stated I should reach out to HP Support. That is what I am obviously doing by making this post. Before and/or after I receive any replies to this post, I am going to look at some of the other options that HP Support has that could help solve this issue. EDIT: I have turned off, unplugged, waited a couple of minutes, plugged it back in, and turned it back on. It did not fix the issue. EDIT: I have asked HP Virtual Agent for help but it was unhelpful. I tried to download HP Support Assistant to see if I could use it to diagnose the printer technically but it did not download. I thought I did not have the HP Smart App on my laptop but I do and I used that to search for any clue for what is wrong to no avail. I looked at the software and drivers for the printer for any relevant software and I downloaded the latest firmware update for the printer only for the printer to be already full updated (I thought this was a newer update to the present one on the printer that the printer says it is already fully updated). EDIT ON THURSDAY, MAY 9, 2024: The printer that is discussed in this post is owned by my mother. I apologize and condemn myself for my past disingenuous choice that was me not revealing who owned the printer.

Hi @Jamie-Abrams ,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you've already taken some proactive steps to troubleshoot the issue. Since you've checked the ink levels and performed maintenance tasks like cleaning the printhead and aligning it, it's possible that the issue lies with the printer settings or the software you're using to print.

Here are a few additional steps you can try:

  • Printer Settings: Check the printer settings on your computer to ensure that it's set to print in black and white only. Depending on the software you're using, there should be an option to select "Black and White" or "Grayscale" printing.
  • Printer Properties: If you're using a Windows computer, you can access the printer properties by right-clicking on the printer icon in the Devices and Printers window. Look for an option that allows you to choose "Black Ink Only" or "Use black cartridge only." This should override any settings that might be using color ink for black and white printing.
  • Driver Update: Make sure that your printer drivers are up to date. Sometimes outdated drivers can cause printing issues. You can download the latest drivers from the HP website specific to your printer model. Software and Drivers for HP Officejet Pro 6830 e-All-in-One Printer series
  • Check Print Preview: Before printing, always check the print preview to ensure that the document is set to print in black and white.
  • Test with Another Device: If possible, try printing from a different device to see if the issue persists. This can help determine if the problem is specific to one device or if it's a printer issue.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

I have tried all the options presented by @Gaya1239  and the HP printer discussed in my post still prints blank pages (I forgot to state the blank pages part in my previous post) despite picking the black and white, monochrome, and grayscale options on three separate occasions today. I also checked the printer's device settings in Devices and Printers section in the Windows 11 Control Panel. It does not allow me to control what color or colors the printer uses to print. Thank you @Gaya1239 for your help.
