Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

The printer worked as advertised (using USB cable) until black ink cartridge needed replacement. THREE new cartridges failed to restore former working condition - the black ink cartridge icon lite blinks repeatedly which prevents printing. I've tried both USB and wireless connection without success. Also ran "print & scan doctor" and "easy setup" REPEATEDLY also without success. Download printer driver(s). Finally removed and reinserted the print-head (cartridge holder) but lite continues to blink. Can this situation be corrected by a poor but honest user like me ??

ADDITIONAL BUG - UNABLE TO UPDATE FIRMWARE.  Desperately trying anything & everything to salvage the printer but apparently the blinking icon cartridge lite prevents proper troubleshooting. It's beginning to appear that merely replacing a black ink HP cartridge could result in scrapping the printer.

Factory reset procedure is no help either. Why is this happening to a nice guy like me ??

STILL MORE - following link says that HP firmware may be cause of initial rejection of 2 of 3 replacement cartridges but fails to say how to remove firmware.  It's worth a try but HOW ??

If you are having trouble navigating through the above options, it's most likely because the device is out of warranty. Another HP printer (officejet 8620) has been discontinued by HP and is reported NOT to accept newer ink cartridges with correct model #s (950 & 951). Is it possible that same fate has happened to my 8100 Pro since nothing that I've tried so far restores prtr to normal functions ??
