I purchased a set of high-capacity cartridges for my Officejet Pro 8600 last year. I used my printer regularly for about 4 months. At the end of this period, the printer ink monitor was showing all cartridges >80% full. I did no printing for the later part of the year. When I came to use my printer again, all of the cartridges show a much lower ink level, and one is now showing as being depleted.
I followed these instructions to try to debug the issue:
HP Inkjet printers - Ink cartridge errors | HP® Customer Support
This is really frustrating because I do not feel that I got close to what I paid for with these cartridges, I am certain I didn't print even half of the 700 pages that these color cartridges are supposed to print. I am trying to submit a warranty claim for the cartridges that are still covered, but because my printer is no longer under warranty, I seem unable to submit anything to HP.

Hi @Seabass11,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If you're experiencing premature depletion of your HP Officejet Pro 8600 951 cartridges, there are several possible reasons for this. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot the issue.
- Check the ink levels: Make sure that the ink levels are accurately displayed in the printer software. If they are not, try resetting the ink level gauge.
- Print a diagnostic report: This report will help you determine whether the problem is with the cartridge or with the printer. To print a diagnostic report, go to the printer's control panel and select "Print Quality Report" or "Diagnostic Page."
- Clean the printhead: Over time, the printhead can become clogged with ink or debris, which can cause the cartridges to deplete prematurely. To clean the printhead, go to the printer's control panel and select "Setup" > "Tools" > "Clean Printhead."
- Replace the cartridges: If none of the above steps work, it's possible that the cartridges are simply defective. Try replacing them with new, genuine HP cartridges to see if the problem persists.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
