Hi I have a hp office jet pro 9016 printer 

I have put new hp cartridges in and the screen is showing use setup cartridges and won't let me do anything on the screen. Don't know what else to do.

Denny just went through this problem with my HP Officejet Pro 8600 N911a. This is totally BS from HP. Not sure about your HP9016 printer but it seems to work on most models of Officejet's. First what cartridges #s are you using. I got 950-951's

On your display on the printer, sometimes the menu is hidden. If the menu is hidden take a flashlight & hover around the left outer edge of the screen. Right next to the display menu. Black portion if black, white portion if white. You should see a home button icon on top left corner of the display, then going down a back left arrow, going further down a back icon. On the right outer top edge, you should see a question mark icon, going down, a right arrow icon, & further down a X icon which is the back icon. Sometimes HP will lock up your screen to make it impossible to see the screen. Hopefully you have something similar. 

Now procedure: Tap the home screen once, then tap the back button 4 times. Sometimes the home button will not get the results, so just hit the back button icon 4 times. It should pop up with a support menu on your display, On the support menu press the right arrow button slowly till you get to "system configuration Menu". Some ask to clear or reset the OOBE menu. If not go to the initialization menu & tap the ok button 3 times to set. Open cartridge door, wait till printhead goes fully left, then close door. this should work. YouTube video is pretty poor but after writing down what i heard, i finally was able to proceed. YouTube video titled "How to unlock 950/951 setup cartridges on HP 8610/8621/8630 printers" by Simonz Kingpin got 44k views. Hope this helps Sir. Let me know.
