HP OfficeJet 3831 All-in-One Printer

Hello,

 

My system is Windows 11, I have an HP Officejet 3831 setup wirelessly in my local network, currently only prints black and white from my PC and laptop.

The printer prints colour if I print a test page directly from the printer (but not from the PC). It prints colour from other computers.

The issue is recurrent - I have had it maybe four or five times previously, re-occurring after a few months of working properly. Initially it was easy to solve - e.g. I would re-initiate the driver. Each time, however, it would become more difficult to solve it, I had to remove and reinstall the software, the software and the driver...

This last time it appears to have no solution. I tried everything I saw in this forum - removed the printer, uninstalled the software, removed the driver, deleted the registry entries wherever I saw HP. I setup up the printer again, both by using the HP software (HP smart), and by repeating the process and installing the Windows driver. Nothing worked.

I noticed that when this problem happens, when I go to the Printer Properties, in the Paper/Quality tab, I do not have the colour options (which have the option to print black/colour/gray scale) (in that tab the Tray Selection and the Quality Settings options are still visible/available).

 

Can you please help? I am desperate, I do not print much but I do have HP inkjet service account, and an HP printer - If I do not find a solution I will just need to change product, currently I am very frustrated, I am not techy and regardless do not understand why this happens.
