I have two black official HP 952XL cartridges I bought from Costco.
Both of them when installed cause the 8740 to display "Older Generation Cartridge."
How do I override this error message, or get my money back or replacement cartridges?

No, that does not help at all. My firmware is up to date.
It appears that unbeknownst to me, HP decided to invalidate these cartridges between the time I purchased them and the time I used them. Seems like a great way to get more ink sales.
It appears these two 952XLs had an "expiration" date in 2020 - again, unbeknownst to me, as they were packaged with the warranty date unviewable.
So I am looing for a way to either use these full, unused cartridges, which were stored acceptably, or get a replacement or refund. How would I do that?

I understand you are not able to use 2 new black ink cartridges due to this error. To assist you better,
- Are you sure this is an HP genuine ink cartridge?
- Validate this by clicking here - HP Anti-Counterfeit and Fraud (ACF) Program
If this is a genuine HP ink cartridge, I would need some information related to the ink cartridges and the printer which cannot be shared on a public post for security reasons.

I have the same problem with an 952XL cartridge from Costco being an older generation cartridge. What can HP do to allow me to use this cartridge that we paid for or will you private message me and replace it. I expect nothing less.
