I just installed brand new HP 902 XL cartridges purchased from HP.
They say Older Generation Cartridge. When I contacted the help desk, they told me I need to purchase all new cartridges, which is insane. The printer knows that they are genuine HP cartridges, It says that at set up.
I know it has to do with the new firmware, but I can't find the old version.....

Hi @Carol201,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It seems like you're experiencing cartridge issues with your HP OfficeJet Pro 6975 printer. Cartridge issues can be frustrating, but there are several steps you can take to troubleshoot and resolve them.
- Check Cartridge Compatibility: Ensure that you are using genuine HP cartridges that are compatible with your printer model. Using third-party or incompatible cartridges can cause problems.
- Inspect Cartridges: Remove the cartridges and inspect them for any visible damage or leaks. If you find any damage, replace the affected cartridge.
- Clean the Contacts: Sometimes, the metal contacts on the cartridges and inside the printer can become dirty or covered in ink residue. Gently clean these contacts with a lint-free cloth or a cotton swab dipped in distilled water. Allow them to dry before reinserting the cartridges.
- Reset the Printer: Turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source, and wait for a few minutes. Then, plug it back in and turn it on. This can sometimes reset the printer and resolve cartridge issues.
- Update Printer Firmware: Check if there is a firmware update available for your printer on the HP website. Updating the firmware can sometimes resolve compatibility issues.
- Alignment and Print Quality: Use the printer's alignment and print quality tools to ensure that the cartridges are properly aligned and that the print heads are clean. These options are typically available in the printer's settings menu.
- Replace Empty Cartridges: If the printer indicates that a cartridge is empty or low on ink, replace it with a new one.
- Cartridge Authentication Failure: Some HP printers have cartridge authentication systems that may reject non-HP or refilled cartridges.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
