I'm getting Older Generation Cartridge. This cartridge is an older generation cartridge that does not work in your printer. It can still be used with some older printer models.   I'm getting this message for all four cartidges/colors  These same cartidges working just fine 2 weeks ago when I last used the printer.  Cartidge info HP 952XL Cyan Officejet Cartridge (L0S61A),  HP 952XL Magenta Officejet Cartridge (L0S64A), HP 952XL Yellow Officejet Cartridge (L0S67A) and HP 952XL Black Officejet Cartridge (F6U19A).  How do I get theses cartidges working again with the printer?

I resolved this issue by searching on Google and how to do a firmware downgrade for my HP printer.  Downgrading the firmware resolved the issue for me.  This issue will weigh heavily  against me purchasing another HP product.

Robert, Frustrated HP Officejet Pro 8600 N911A owner. Look like the 8710 was built after the 8600 series, so it had to be built in 2013-2015. Back then from what I have gone thru HP download a firmware update in 2017. That firmware actually locked your cartridge information in the printer. It will not let you purchase & use 3rd party cartridges because they started to install special chips in the cartridges. Need to know what part of the world you are located?? Now HP has regionalized these chips. Look at your new cartridges & let me know what region you have on the label. Z10 cartridges are only meant for USAS & Canada. Z20's are made specifically for the European part of the world. They have Z30 & Z40 for the area of the Asian market then African continent. I know my 8600 is a workhorse. If you contact support, you will be directed to India or the Philippians.

2 minutes into my phone call, HP rep stated," I need a New Printer". WHAT??????Ask for supervisor, got same response. "Need new printer" because it is out of manufactures warranty. Heard on the phone where background reps were clapping, yelling, laughing because one of their agents sold a new printer & met HP's Quota for sales. Commissions for everyone. Stay away from those sites. The supervisor sent me to his manager which was an online chat session. WHAT The ****. He told me that because my printer was out of warranty, he would have to charge me $1:00 for out of warranty support. At that point 5 hours into this fiasco, I gave him my name, email address & CC info. He told me that if problem was cartridge related, he would reimburse me for the $1:00.  Something was fishy!!!!! I connected to my online bank & started noticing fraudulent charges on my acct. immediately, I ask that Manager in chat if he was indeed a hp Support rep. he stated that no he wasn't, he was from just answer where he sent the link to HP support website. For God's sake I already had that information. I wanted to print that chat session by my printer was basically locked up because of a regionalize cartridge. Be Careful. I hope you have time to resolve this. Like I said, I have been able to print anything in a week. I am getting much better response than from telling me to buy a new printer. This site looks like we have US support agents who understand our problems & issues. My ink cartridges were the same model's (952XL's). What has changed in the last 2 weeks?? Have you download any new updates or anything?

Again, not knowing your region really hurts. If you are in the US or Canada, you should have this cartridge # for the magenta.

L0S64AN#140

has to be a AN at the end of that number, if you are in the states. Let me know. Take Care

The cartridges are genuine HP cartridges.  What has changed, I supect the firmware was upgraded when I loaded some scanner sofware.  From my view point, it's an HP issue.  When I run the  HP OfficeJet Pro 8710 Embedded Web Server under Product Information , Cartridge Level Gauge states HP 952XL, HP 952 are supported cartridges. That's what is installed.  These cartridges have been installed and working for the past year. The Cartridge Level Guage page also states the cartridges were installed  2022-01-01. The cartridges were installed long before that.  So this looks like an issue HP will need to resolve with another firmware upgrade.  That the warrenty is expired is a non issue.  Where I'm located is also a non issue as these HP cartridges were working and now they are not.  I stated my cartridge info in my first post.

Hey Robert, I agree. It is an HP Problem. Don't count on them to come out with a revised firmware. To busy selling there new junk printers. Google "Older Generation Cartridge". on the search page at the very top of the page will be a HP Document stating the diagnostics for the work around. Read the entire page from top to bottom. a lot of pulling power cords, resetting the printer. I just found it. Let me know if you can't find it. Take Care.

Good morning, Robert, Glad you were able to do a downgrade on the firmware & get the issue corrected. 1 other piece of advice is to make sure your software & hardware stops sending your printer information to HP, otherwise that updated firmware will be reinstalled. Just a warning. Take Care.

Glad that worked out for you Robert.
