HP OfficeJet Pro 8740 All-in-One Printer

I have purchased HP Ink specific to the printer. It appears that the updated firmware that was released caused the ink to be considered an older generation. How do i get the genuine ink purchased to be compatible with the new release (ink levels in the cartages are near full)

Hi @jmn1821,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If you're experiencing compatibility issues with your HP Officejet Pro 8740 printer and genuine HP ink cartridges after a firmware update, there are a few steps you can take to address the problem.

  • Check for the Latest Firmware: Make sure your printer has the latest firmware installed. Visit the official HP support website and search for your printer model to find and download the latest firmware update. Install the update on your printer following the provided instructions.
  • Restart the Printer: Sometimes, a simple restart can help resolve communication issues between the printer and cartridges. Turn off your printer, wait a minute, and then turn it back on.
  • Reinstall the Ink Cartridges: Remove the ink cartridges from the printer and then reinsert them securely. Make sure they are properly seated in their respective slots.
  • Clean the Cartridge Contacts: Use a lint-free cloth to gently clean the electrical contacts on both the ink cartridges and the corresponding slots in the printer. This helps ensure a good connection.
  • Check Cartridge Expiration Dates: Ensure that the ink cartridges you are using have not expired. Cartridges have an expiration date, and using expired cartridges can lead to compatibility issues.
  • Downgrade Firmware (Caution): In some cases, users have reported success by downgrading the firmware to a version that does not have the compatibility issues. However, downgrading firmware comes with risks and should be approached with caution.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Hello,

Prior to messaging I have tried the steps listed above. Except for rolling back firmware. That option is not a viable solution to support the HP product.

It appears to be a flaw in the current version of firmware

Please advise
