As Im going thru the post I realize there are others with the same issue. Just a little confused on why HP would sell cartridges that at some point would not be compatible with our printers. I have an OfficeJet Pro8715 and purchased two extra cartridges that are now no good. Since the cost of these cartridges are very expensive, does HP have some form of replacement/re-imbursement program that I can utilize towards ones that are compatible? As of now Im out $200 and two cartridges that I might as well throw away.

Hi @ThelmaJo,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

HP older generation cartridges refer to ink cartridges that were used in older models of HP printers. These cartridges are generally not compatible with newer models of HP printers due to changes in printer technology and cartridge design.

Some examples of older generation HP cartridges include the HP 56 and HP 57 cartridges, which were commonly used in HP Deskjet and Officejet printers from the early 2000s. Other older-generation cartridges include the HP 21 and HP 22 cartridges, which were used in entry-level HP printers around the same time.

If you have an older HP printer that requires one of these cartridges, it may be more difficult to find replacement cartridges as they are no longer produced by HP. However, there are many third-party manufacturers who produce compatible cartridges that can be used in older HP printers.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

HP changed the design of the cartridges used in your printer and updated the firmware to reject the old generation cartridges.  See the document here for information. In my opinion HP should replace any genuine HP cartridges that are giving the Old Generation Cartridge error.  You will need to replace the cartridges with cartridges with an end of warranty date of February 2021 or later.
