I have always used an HP952 in cartridge in my Office Jet Pro 8710 but this time when I tried to replace the cartridge I get a message that this is an "older generation cartridge" and it will not work in the printer.

HP changed the design of the cartridges used in your printer and updated the firmware to reject the old generation cartridges.  See the document here for information.

 

In my opinion HP should replace any genuine HP cartridges that are giving the Old Generation Cartridge error.

 

I will ask to have your case escalated.
