Product: HP OfficeJet Pro 8720 All-in-One Printer

My printer (OfficeJet Pro 8720) recently did an update to the latest firmware. After it ran out of ink. I put in a cartridge that I've had for a couple years and it says that it's an older generation cartridge and will not print. I have three of these cartridges and I need them to work so I'm able to print something. The one that was in there was working perfectly fine and was from the same group of cartridges that these new ones I'm trying to use are. How do I fix this?
