Microsoft Windows 11

Just purchased an Omnibook 5 notebook with snapdragon X plus chip. I already own and HP printer, LaserJet Pro MFP M127fw. The printer connects and receives print orders but prints them out wrong. small image, black lines and random text. Seems that the chip does not work with the printer. I have tried every "trick" on the internet. This is not a rare problem. HP has lots of legacy printers that don't work with this laptop. Has HP provided a patch or download that fixes this? Is there a work around that actually works?

Hi @Jackson2221,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

You’re encountering a compatibility issue between HP printers and Windows 11 on ARM (Snapdragon) devices. These laptops rely on the ARM64 architecture, and many legacy printer drivers were built for x86/x64 and don’t work correctly. The issue you're seeing, garbled prints, blank output, or misformatted documents, is typical in this scenario.

1. Use Network Printing (IPP/Mopria/AirPrint)

Since your LaserJet Pro MFP M127fw is network-capable (Wi‑Fi or Ethernet), the best approach is to set it up using standard network printing protocols:

  • Ensure the printer and laptop are on the same Wi‑Fi network.
  • On your laptop, go to Settings → Bluetooth & devices → Printers & scanners, click Add device, and let Windows install the driver through the network.
This method doesn't rely on ARM-specific drivers and usually works reliably for printing.

2. Install HP Universal Print Driver (UPD) ARM64

HP offers an ARM64 version of their Universal Print Driver that often resolves these issues:

  1. Download the “SUPD-V4-ARM64” (HP Smart Universal Print Driver) from HP Universal Print Driver Series for Windows Software and Driver Downloads | HP® Support.
  2. Run the installer, direct it to your networked M127fw printer.
This driver is ARM-compatible and offers full feature support.

3. Use the HP App

If UPD isn’t enough, try the HP app, which can manage printers on ARM systems:

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!

Hi,

The LaserJet Pro MFP M127fw does not have dedicated ARM64, which is why you’re seeing garbled output on your Omnibook 5 with the Snapdragon X Plus chip.

However, you can still use the printer on Windows ARM devices by relying on Windows’ built‑in IPP (Internet Printing Protocol) support for printing and eSCL for scanning over the network. This gives you basic functionality without needing HP Smart or special drivers. Printing quality may depend on whether the printer fully supports IPP, but scanning should work reliably.

Thanks!
