Bought an onn black ink cartridge at Walmart, installed it into printer, however it will not print. Pages are all blank. Tried several times, but will not print. Tried to return it 4 days later, but they said they do not accept returns on opened ink cartridges. I want a refund for this faulty product.

Hi @SMM17,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I’m sorry you’re dealing with this. Blank pages after installing a new cartridge can be very frustrating.

I do want to clarify an important point regarding support and refunds:

  • Onn. Ink cartridges are third-party (non-HP) products and are not manufactured or supported by HP.
  • Because of this, HP is not able to issue refunds, replacements, or warranty support for third-party ink cartridges, even if they do not work as expected in an HP printer.

Why this happens

Third-party cartridges can sometimes:

  • Be defective out of the box
  • Have incompatible ink formulations
  • Fail to communicate correctly with the printer
  • Produce blank pages due to internal ink flow or chip issues

These issues are unfortunately outside HP’s control.

What you can do next

  1. Contact the cartridge manufacturer (onn.)
    • Onn. is a Walmart house brand
    • Walmart or onn. Customer support is the correct point of contact for a refund or replacement, even if the store itself declined the return

  2. Reinstall an HP Genuine ink cartridge (if available)
    • This helps confirm the printer itself is working correctly
    • HP printers are designed and tested specifically with HP Genuine Ink

  3. If you decide to continue using third-party ink
    • Any issues related to print quality, blank pages, or cartridge recognition must be handled by the cartridge manufacturer, not HP

Important note

Using third-party cartridges does not void your printer warranty, but HP cannot guarantee performance or provide support for problems caused by non-HP ink.

If you’d like, you can share your printer model, and I can confirm the correct HP Genuine cartridge numbers to help you get back up and printing reliably.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
