Our Office Jet Pro 9015 sat idle for about a year, I have installed new ink, went through the clean print head cycle and I cannot get black to print,  can I manually clean the printhead or am I going to have to replace it?

Could you tell me if you have tried cleaning the cartridges and reinstalling them?
 

If not please try the below-mentioned steps and let me know if the issue persists.
 

Step 1) Let's try performing a printer reset and see if that helps:

  • Remove the cartridges  
  • Unplug the power cord 
  • Wait for 30 seconds 
  • Plug the power cord back 
  • Insert the cartridges

Step 2) I would advise running through the points below and checking to see if the “Cartridge Problem” message has disappeared at the end of each one.

  • Check/Wipe Cartridge Contacts: A common cause of the “Cartridge Problem” message is the gold contacts found on an electronic chip on the body of the HP cartridge being obscured with dirt/ink or even physically having been damaged.
  •  Firstly remove the indicated cartridge from the printer and locate the chip.
  •  Ensure the gold contacts on this chip are not physically damaged, then wipe them down with a piece of non-fibrous tissue like a kitchen roll.
  •  I would recommend wiping them down even if no dirt is visible and using an alcohol-based cleaning solution or cartridge flush for any stubborn marks that could stop the cartridge from being recognized.
  • Wipe Contacts Inside the Printer: If the cartridge contacts mentioned in the previous point are clean, it may be that the corresponding contacts inside the printer are obscured stopping your printer from recognizing the cartridge.
  • If you can see these electronic contacts and they are easily accessible, clean them with the method mentioned above to ensure they are also clean. Some of these contacts in these printers are raised/pointed and I would advise using caution to ensure scraps of tissue are not left inside the printer obscuring the contacts further.

Step 3) Could you remove the tricolor alone, and then try printing using just the black cartridge? 

After that, could you remove the black cartridge, try printing using the tricolor, and let me know how it goes?
