Welcome to the HP English Community --

This printer is one of the many HP printers that requires HP chipped cartridges.

When true, whether refilled or re-manufactured, all ink used in a printer that requires an HP chip must indeed have the HP chip.

If you are using refilled or re-manufactured cartridges, ask you ink supplier whether they are using HP chipped cartridges.

Firmware updates, from the first one and onward, (re)enforce the security policy.

There is no legal way to bypass the security.

Yeah, but what about...

"Cartridge Protection" - likely found in the Printer Control Panel and present in the Embedded Web Server (EWS) connection to the printer, is used to prevent theft of ink cartridges from one printer (or fleet of printers) and then used in a different printer.

Cartridge Protection is not meant to disable the Dynamic Security that prevents use of non-HP chipped cartridges.

Open your Browser > Type / enter the Printer IP address into URL / Address bar

Tab Settings > Supplies > Supply Settings > Cartridge Protection = OFF or ON

OR

Alternate format EWS

Open your Browser > Type / enter the Printer IP address into URL / Address bar

Section Supplies > tab Supply Settings > Cartridge Protection = OFF or ON
