HP Smart Tank 580 All-in-One Printer

I recently bought an HP smart tank 580 printer. I tried printing a photo on a photo paper using the free ink from hp. I adjusted the settings for photo printing but when it comes out, it looks so dark. I did everything I could but it’s still the same.

Welcome to the HP English Community --

"Ink from HP" is essentially the same formula whether the ink comes with the printer, the ink is sent to you as part of an Instant Ink subscription, or if the ink is purchased from the HP Store.

If you believe the printer is the source of the issue,

When / After the printer can print a test / diagnostic page as it should, the next steps involve how the photo is printed.

Paper matters --

  • A matte background -- plain paper or card paper -- reflects less or none of the light in the photo.
  • Glossy background -- photo paper -- reflects light a bit better than matte; the results cannot duplicate the way a photo appears when viewed on a computer (tablet, or phone) screen.

Settings matter --

  • Most applications and printer software designed to print photos (images) include some basic editing tools to change the way the photo appears when printed.

Source matters --

  • Whether printing from a file you already have or scanning and then printing the content, the same tools used to adjust the settings can be used.  For example, HP Smart (Windows / Mobile) supports scanning (or Scan > Import > file) > Edit > Adjust > Save and / or Print.

Example - HP Smart - Windows - Scan > Import Photo > Edit > Adjust

HP_Smart_Win_Scan_Edit_Image_Set_4HP_Smart_Win_Scan_Edit_Image_Set_4

Example - Photos (app) - Windows - Adjust

Photos_Edit_Options_Adjust_3Photos_Edit_Options_Adjust_3

What else?

The better the tools, the more control you have over the outcome.

Example - Irfanview - (Free) - Windows - Color Corrections
