I am trying to print a text document, however, when I do this there are lines of text missing. I have tried using the clean printhead function multiple times and the align printhead function, neither of these fixed anything. The ink is full and has been previously printing documents with no issues.

Hi @liliasx,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand your printer is missing lines of text even after cleaning and alignment. Let’s go through a few checks.

Before we proceed, please confirm:

What is the exact printer model?

Are the missing lines always in the same horizontal position on every page?

Meanwhile, you can follow these steps:

Step 1: Print a Printer Quality Report (Without Computer)

  • Load plain white paper.
  • Use the printer’s control panel to print a Print Quality Report or Diagnostic Page.
  • Examine the color and black blocks closely.
  • Look for gaps, white streaks, or broken lines.
  • Compare whether the gaps match the missing lines in your document.
  • If gaps appear on the report, this confirms a printhead nozzle issue.

Step 2: Perform One Deep Cleaning Cycle

  • Open the HP app.
  • Select your printer.
  • Go to Printer Maintenance.
  • Select Deep Clean or Level 2 Cleaning (if available).
  • Run it once only.
  • Print another quality report.

CAUTION: Do not run multiple deep cleans back-to-back. It can overheat the printhead.

Step 3: Check Print Settings

  • Open the print dialog.
  • Go to Printer Preferences.
  • Set Print Quality to “Normal” (not Draft).
  • Ensure the paper type is set to plain paper.
  • Print the document again.
  • Draft mode can cause faint or broken lines.

Step 4: Try a Different Font or File

  • Create a new simple text document.
  • Change the font (for example, from Calibri to Arial).
  • Print one page.
  • Save the document as a PDF.
  • Print the PDF version.
  • If the issue disappears, it may be a rendering issue rather than hardware.

Step 5: Remove and Reseat Ink Cartridges

  • Turn the printer on.
  • Open the cartridge access door.
  • Remove each cartridge.
  • Inspect the copper contacts for ink buildup.
  • Reinstall firmly until each clicks into place.
  • Print a test page.

If the missing lines are always in the exact same horizontal band across every page, this usually indicates partially clogged or permanently blocked nozzles in one section of the printhead.

I hope this helps.
